Verdant claim back to back EPIC.LAN titles

Verdant Epic 43 Champ

The Irish and British squad shined with a little bit of help from some French magic. The best of three wasn’t quite the thrilling rematch that people were envisioning after the three map affair that took place in the upper bracket final. Verdant and Cai “CYPHER” Watson’s “Verdant Fe” did battle on Ancient and Vertigo once more, with a new decider of Anubis not required. Verdant maintained a dominant run throughout the tournament dropping just 2 maps during the event.

First map of play was Verdant Fe’s pick of Ancient, a map they made their own over the course of the tournament, including a victory over Verdant on Saturday. Their comfort showed as it was the closest map of the two that were played. Jack “Gizmy” von Spreckelson’s heroics weren’t enough to secure a map victory, the top performing player for Verdent Fe in map one posted a 1.36 HLTV rating but the team as a whole fell short. The map ended with Verdant taking the win 13-8.

Next up was Vertigo which was Verdant’s pick and they showed exactly why they picked into the map. Callum “Girafffe” Jones styled on the mix team when he pulled out a 1.93 rating to secure himself and Verdant the trophy. A dominant 11-1 CT side set Verdant on the brink, and an incredible eco round win with a 1v2 from Tom “arTisT” Clarke propelled the team to match point despite conceding the pistol.

The grand final was a rematch of the upper bracket final however Verdant Fe struggled to perform the same in the second encounter. The mix gave Verdant a run for their money when the squads clashed for the first time, handing Verdant one of their two map losses and pushing them through. Despite the whole squad posting good numbers throughout the whole event, the Verdant fe players were unable to replicate the individual brilliance that allowed them to progress so far into the tournament on the stage, with even CYPHER quiet.

After putting up incredible numbers remarkably consistently over the course of the entire weekend Matas “Extinct” Strumila earns himself the MVP of EPIC 43. This victory for Extinct sees him earn his ninth EPIC.LAN trophy, with the Irishman achieving a three-peat of EPICLAN success in 2024, having won EPIC41 with mix side The Neighbours before the back-to-back trophy wins with Verdant.
